Do you ever feel like you are looking in all the wrong places for steampunk attire?
Well, a bunch of us are purging our closets and you can reap the benefits!
Clothing, jewelry, shoes, crafts and more will be for sale or possibly even barter.

On Saturday July 11th at the All Pilgrim’s Church (lower level) we will be holding a Steampunk swapmeet/jumble/garage sale/ flea market thingy. It is the unifying theme for this event, but not a strict parameter. We are sort of time traveling sales folk, which also fits the genre, don’t you think?

July 11th

All Pilgrim’s Church (lower level), 500 Broadway E, Seattle, WA 98102.

Noon to 6:00 PM.

Admission is free.

(All the selling spaces are sold out, so no more inquiries please)

(Apologies for cross posting)

Shopping at "ARG"!

Me Pirate Hat
Tonight, we headed out to forage for food (mmmm...lemon chicken!) and get a few supplies. We hit a few places and then we were going to go to Target before heading home. As we drove up, M noticed that their lights seemed dim. And in fact the sign was only partially illuminated. It said "ARG". So piratical fans that we are, we figured we should see if this was a new branding scheme. Unfortunately all the parking lot lights were also out. It made for a rather exciting game of dodge the cars to get to the door. No cool pirate stuff was to be found (only lame Captain Morgan glasses). I refrained from taunting the clerk about not having an eye patch and parrot to go with the new branding. I suspect I would have got a confused look. Ah well. A new steampunk jacket and a few shirts were added to my wardrobe, but not from "ARG".

I also got some brass buttons to replace the buttons from one of my pirate jackets. Oh and the large silver pin was found at Ray's Ragtime, another great place to spend way too much money.

Going to Shinjuku goth and EGL shopping and none of it will fit enormous me! *weep* It is so f**king not fair! It is marginally made up for by finding Halloween Sanrio and Disney stuff. Le sigh.

Weekend trip

Toying
After a rocky start with a morning where everything went wrong, we got on the road toward Eugene. Spirits were much improved after a quick stop in Tacoma for fresh off the line blueberry fritters from Krispy Kreme. Eeeeevil! We stopped in Portland for lunch at Henry’s 12th Street Tavern. Since we’d been shopping in the neighborhood only a month previous we didn’t bother doing much this time. Our main objective in Portland was to hit Fabric Depot. Our fabric shopping hadn’t been terribly successful in Seattle, so we thought we’d try someplace else. The selection there was quite a bit better, since they are HUGE! Between the lack of sales tax and the 30% off sale that they had going, we were quite happy to walk out with a pile of fabric. We found a gorgeous brocade for one of M’s vest projects and some luscious taffeta for a Victorian dress for me among other things. We got back on the road, had dinner in Portland and did a little shopping there as well. M found a lovely pocket watch for his Victorian trousseau. The next day decided to be rainy, which ruined our plans to wander about and take pictures of the multitude of goslings that M’s Mom’s place attracted. Instead we went into Eugene and had a very nice lunch. I suggested hitting a craft store since the other problem I’ve had lately in Seattle, is that Michael’s has pretty much run all the other crafts places out of business. I didn’t have much luck, but I felt like I had tried. (Before anyone starts suggesting places online, I am already quite sick of the difficulties of shopping for craft supplies online. Some things have not been improved by the internet.)
Our evening was spent quietly watching the rain and petting the cats after a lovely homemade dinner with a small flurry of excitement when the guest bedroom was found to be flooding slightly. In the morning, Earth Day turned out to a nice sunny day. We finally got to walk around M’s mom’s ten plus acre expanse of wetlands and view it’s incredible inhabitants; lots of frogs, tiny fish, and many species of birds. The cats enjoyed darting back and forth between the humans during the hike. I got tired before M did so I hid in the house and watched one of the geese families from the window. I think babies are fascinating as long as they are someone else’s. We spent a little time trying to help M’s Mom into the 20th century with some computer advice. It was agreed that the 21st century may have to wait a little longer. We ate lunch, packed up and got on the road much later than expected. We made a stop at an outlet mall on the way to Portland. I really don’t like them much since they often aren’t very discounted, but occasionally you come across a great deal and it’s an excuse to stretch your legs. This trip I did manage to find an amazing deal on Playmobil. It’s almost never on sale and this was quite inexpensive and then there’s the fabulous lack of sales tax. I got a small castle, a pirate ship and a small set of pirates. At this rate the next place we live will need a room just for Playmobil! It’s a good thing M was already aware of this danger. I don’t feel too bad though since M found a camera lens he’s been looking for. We also lost our saving throw against the Harry and David store, so we had snacks for the drive. Despite traffic, the rest of the drive wasn’t too bad. It was a nice escape from our daily lives for the most part. If the weather had been more cooperative, it would have been better, but it’s never a sure thing.

'Tis the season...
