Didn't manage to win, but thought you might like to see it.

I look so forlorn there. Sort of like I feel right now. Well, Steamcon is over for this year, but planning is well under way for the next one. It's just too far away!

We had fun at the Everyday is Halloween Party at the Vogue on Saturday. After traipsing around all day in Victorian garb for the steamrats train trip, helix90 wasn't up for dressing up, but I of course could not resist. I decided on a new variation of my Queen of Hearts since it would take no explanation. I'm not sure I'm happy with how the make up came out, but I think it worked overall. The night started out slow, but it was quite crowded towards the end of the night. I had the extreme misfortune of being the first contestant. One of the judges told me afterwards that I had very high marks and they loved my outfit, but that did hurt me, as the audience wasn't warmed up yet. All the winners were couples. A couple wearing almost nothing but Starbucks aprons won for their "Naked Baristas". They could have benefited from helix90's much better title of "Bare-istas". The couple as Death and Dream were good. I was not impressed by Marie Antoinette and her Musketeer. I told the judges that I feel the audience participation portion of the vote, was really pointless. It generally means you have the most friends, not the best costume. At least they didn't make us dance.

I've got the lyrics to that song stuck in my head. One week ago, we were singing and laughing at the Adventurer's Club. It's sad to think about the place going away. I'm reading the messages of people who are there on this last public night and I wish I was too. One last Hoopla. One last Kungaloosh.

Thanks to all the talented folks who made life a little bit brighter for so many years. You were amazing.

For those of you who might appreciate and understand this, I've heard reports of four maids tonight, an appearance by the elusive Sutter Bestwick, Otis finally won the Balderdash cup, and unfortunately ...the Radiothon failed to raise enough money to save the club. I guess two Wongs no longer make a right.

It was very cold, but luckily the Zoo Store had a lovely scarf, hat and glove set for sale. We even got snowed on a tiny bit! Watching the elephant paint made up for it though. Being spring (it is?) meant that there were many amorous animals including the lorikeets. I think they liked my scarf.

This is the only picture taken with my camera from the con. The rest of the pics can be seen on helix90's gallery here. I don't really have a report for this year. It was good but strangely similar to other years. My costumes were all well received. As always I wish we had gotten more pictures. The steampunk quotient was high and that was great!
Now I have to go and pack for Portland and the Vampire Masquerade Ball.

Well, slightly. The pic below was apparently in the Oregonian with a story about Orycon. I can't actually find the pic there, but a friend sent it to me. I think I won't send it to my mother so I don't have to hear her say "WHY can't you wear normal clothes?!!!" for the 2 millionth time. Normal clothes? What fun would that be?

One of my photos might be used by Schmap for the Oregon zoo pic! No money, but it gets credited. Kind of cool.
